Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond has released a clarification document responding to the federal “Dear Colleague” letter. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights released the letter Feb. 14 to suggest that schools and agencies end any educational program or activity that acknowledges race within 14 days or face potential revocation of federal funding.
The clarification addresses a few concerns that local educational agencies may have and encourages that they notify CDE if there are now “unmet needs” for essential educational services.
