Consuelo Vidal-Perez perseveres through grief

July 5, 2021

Consuelo Vidal-Perez's mother meant everything to her. The Watsonville High School senior said she and her mom did everything together. After her mother died from cancer when Consuelo was 15 years old, Consuelo had a tough time. Staying at home during the pandemic forced her to confront her grief. The Watsonville High School community helped Consuelo work through her difficulties, creating a safe space for her to enjoy her AVID class and running track and field. Now, she says her mother is her inspiration. "She was my biggest motivator. And she still is," Consuelo said. "She still gives me that strength that I need to go on every single day. And not only that, but she still gives me the strength to show my little brother to keep going on."
