ACSA issues endorsements in state races

September 18, 2018 Staff Writer

The ACSA Board of Directors has endorsed candidates running in the November election for California constitutional officers, which include the offices of governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, treasurer and controller.

ACSA has endorsed the following candidates in the listed constitutional officer races:

• Governor: Gavin Newsom

• Lieutenant Governor: Ed Hernandez

• Secretary of State: Alex Padilla

• Attorney General: Xavier Becerra

• Treasurer: Fiona Ma

• Controller: Betty Yee

Earlier this year, the ACSA Board of Directors endorsed Marshall Tuck for superintendent of public instruction.

“Student advocacy and a dedication to shaping the future of public education policy guided ACSA’s endorsement process and every interview the board conducted,” said ACSA President Holly Edds. “We’re very excited about how each candidate reflects a fiscal, legal or policy strategy that will benefit California students.”

These ACSA endorsements represent hours of volunteer work on behalf of a subset of the Board of Directors, who conducted and participated in interviews with all of the candidates. All ACSA California constitutional officer endorsement recommendations were submitted to the board for approval by the subset of volunteers from the Board of Directors. All ACSA endorsements are approved by the ACSA Board of Directors.

Similarly, all ACSA California Assembly and Senate endorsement recommendations were submitted to the board for approval by regional vice presidents of legislative action with support from the ACSA Governmental Relations staff.
