When a district focuses on building trusting relationships and connecting family engagement to student learning, and when it builds the capacity of educators and families to work together, family engagement can lead to a school-family partnership that can positively impact student outcomes and close achievement gaps. Every district has unique strengths and challenges, among educators as well as among families. A family engagement team that reflects the district's diverse stakeholders and that leads a process of continuous improvement will have the best chance of engaging all fami- lies in the district and ensuring that family engagement activities align with district goals for student learning. Using an equity lens in the continuous improvement process will help to engage families of underrepresented and underserved students. We hope this toolkit will contribute to the field of family engagement and will inspire others to share their practices, insights, and lessons learned. With families and educators working and learning together, we can make a difference for all students.
