Association of California School Administrators GOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS DEPARTMENT ACSA's Governmental Relations Department consists of 8 advocates committed to carrying out ACSA's legislative and political programs at the state and federal levels of government and regulatory agencies. The staff is charged with fulfilling the association's strategic direction of being "bold and authoritative advocates" for the benefit of students and educational leaders in California. Edgar Zazueta – Senior Director of Policy & Governmental Relations Edgar leads the Policy and Governmental Relations Department and the overall legislative, political affairs, strategy and policy program for the association. He works closely with the Vice Presidents of Legislative Action on candidate endorsements, PAC support and expansion, Legislative Action Day, as well as managing the Education Legal Support Fund. Furthermore, Edgar oversees the work of the Legislative Policy Committee, assists the Superintendency Council, as well as works closely with the Executive Director to maintain consistency of messaging and vision of ACSA. Laura Preston – Legislative Advocate Laura advocates on behalf of ACSA on a number of policy areas including but not limited to credentialing, employee‐employer relations, evaluations, dismissal, governance, transparency, special education, and utilities. She works closely with the Human Resources Council. She also oversees ACSA's Women's Leadership Network. Diana Vu – Legislative Advocate Diana advocates on behalf of ACSA on issues related to accountability, assessment and testing, English language learners, graduation requirements, curriculum and instruction. She advocates ACSA's positions to the State Board of Education and coordinates responses to the myriad of issues that come before the State Board. Iván Carrillo – Legislative Advocate Iván analyzes and advocates on the state budget and policy issues related to fiscal accountability, alternative education, alternatives to discipline, homeless/foster youth, migrant education and school finance, and school safety. He also works closely with ACSA's Business Services Council and Educational Options Council. Derick Lennox – Legislative Advocate Derick advocates on behalf of ACSA on issues such as charter schools, CTE, ROC/P's workforce prep, facilities, pensions, retirement, school bonds, parcel tax, school choice, technology, and transportation. He also works closely with ACSA's Student Services and currently staffs ACSA's Retirement Committee and Charter School Task Force, which was convened to address the complex issues facing charter schools. Kristy Tchamourian – Legislative Assistant Kristy serves as the administrative assistant to the senior director of Governmental Relations, the advocate team, and ACSA's advocacy and engagement coordinator. She maintains the Governmental Relations legislative bill tracking database and serves as 46
