Tapia – Updated January 2020 Organization/Website Description & Comments ACLU California www.acluca.org Offers a multitude of resources related to various laws protecting LGBTQ+ students in California schools. They offer clear and understandable explanations of current laws and appropriate enforcement. The LGBTQ & Gender-Inclusiveness Assessment Checklist is particularly helpful for educators who need to meet the requirements of the California Healthy Youth Act. California Department of Education CDE www.cde.ca.gov Offers information related to every law pertaining to LGBTQ+ protections with relevant curriculum guidance where applicable. From actual copies of legislation to FAQ documents, this site is very helpful. The California Healthy Kids Survey is also accessible on this site. Equality California www.ecqa.org Largest statewide LGBTQ+ organization in the U.S. advocating for pro-equality leaders and legislation; co- sponsor of several CA LGBTQ+ educational laws in place today. The 2019 Safe and Supportive Schools Report Card provides California unified school districts' data related to School Climate, Cultural Competency Training, Transgender and Gender Non- conforming Students, Curriculum, and Suicide Prevention. Gay Lesbian Straight Educators' Network (GLSEN) www.glsen.org In addition to its biannual LGBTQ National School Climate Survey, offers many resources for educators and students alike. The Safe Space Kit, LGBTQ- inclusive curriculum, Educator Guides, Day of Silence, Ally Week, and No Name-calling Week are just some of the resources available. Gender Sexualities Alliance (aka Gay Straight Alliance) GSA Network www.gsanetwork.org Offers training and empowerment for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies. It also offers a multitude of resources for educators; the GSA Advisor Handbook serves as a handy how-to for school site GSAs. The LGBTQ Youth of Color: Discipline Disparities, School Push Out, and the School to Prison Pipeline Study, provides important data regarding the additional challenges students of color face along with being LGBTQ. Human Rights Campaign(HRC) www.hrc.org Is the largest national LGBTQ+ civil rights organization supporting children, youth and adults. It produces several studies including the LGBTQ Youth Report, a national survey of over 17,000 youth. Other documents available include the HRC Latinx LGBTQ Youth Report 2018, a study of Latinx students across America and HRC A Workplace Divided, offering insights regarding LGBTQ discrimination in the workplace.
