Wes Smith on Life/Work Balance at ACSA Leadership Assembly

ACSA Executive Director Wes Smith shares his own powerful story of his journey to finding life/work balance. After years of neglecting self-care in the greater effort to serve CA students, Wes shares the lessons he learned as a heart attack survivor about the power of showing up rested, healthy and ready to work at full capacity. Educational leaders often work tirelessly, at breakneck speed and at all hours to support and serve adults who have responsibility for the academic, emotional and physical well-being of students—often at the expense of their own physical, mental, and emotional health. He explores the power of realizing our purpose and defining our values, and how balance and alignment allow for the full engagement necessary to achieve true success. Smith explores what it is to seek to better understand the cycle of stress, renewal and recovery and how thriving amidst chaos requires intentionally strengthening our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual selves.
