On July 17, Governor Gavin Newsom announced two new documents relating to school reopening in response to the increase in COVID-19 cases. The governor’s guidance, published by the California Department of Public Health, include recommendations concerning when to close and open schools, testing school staff and students for COVID-19, updated face covering requirements, as well as factors that could trigger in-person school closures if students and staff test positive for COVID-19.
